The Fifth Annual Dancing for Safe Haven is April 12 at Lowes Vanderbilt Plaza. Cue the music, the dancers, the glitz, and yes, the glamour. Dancers are practicing, votes are coming in for online favorite, tickets are being sold and Loews Vanderbilt is gearing up for an outstanding dinner and dancing event! We have had a great response and are expecting a sold out crowd. As the nerves get higher and the competition heats up, we wanted to share more about this great event, which features a dancing competition of local celebrities paired with professional dancers.
The brave souls that are learning steps, practicing and gearing up for their dancing debut are:
Francis Guess, recently retired Executive Vice President for the Danner Company and current Senior Advisor Seigenthaler Public Relations, will be dancing the Tango with professional dancer Juanita Simanekova

The honors awarded at the event include: 1) Judges’ Favorite, 2) Audience Favorite and 3) Online Favorite! Dancers are working hard right now to win “Online Favorite” and to raise money for Safe Haven. Show your support now by voting for a dancer to win the “Online Favorite” award. Each vote is $1 (five vote minimum), and every dollar raised goes to empower homeless families with children to achieve lasting self-sufficiency. Click here to vote for your favorite dancer.
We caught up with two of our celebrity dancers and asked them why they are Dancing for Safe Haven.
“I am so excited to be Dancing for Safe Haven! Not only do I love to dance, but I am so passionate about what Safe Haven is doing in the Nashville community not only to provide food and shelter for the homeless, but also to educate and help families to reverse homelessness.” - Brenna Mader
“Why are we so strangely willing to make complete fools of ourselves? For love. Love of this hard-working organization, Safe Haven, that consistently provides a home and so much more for homeless families. Love for the families brave enough to accept the helping hand of community and lift themselves off of life’s hard rock bottom. And love for each other, mostly strangers before last month, who have come together from all walks of life; businessmen, politicos, pageant goddesses and winning athletes, all willing to laugh and be laughed at for a worthy cause.” – Lari White
Event chairs Vicki Yates (News Channel 5) and Darrell Freeman (Zycron) understand the nerves and hard work of our dancers, as they both danced in 2013. They want to extend this special invitation for you to attend the event and/or vote online for our dancers. “This year’s event is special as we will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of Safe Haven and the 5th annual Dancing for Safe Haven,” said co-chairs Freeman and Yates. “Your presence and support will mean that more families will be able to have the feeling of accomplishment and stability that every mother, father and child deserves.”
At the event, we will also be recognizing our 2014 Hero Award. The Hero Award honors a volunteer who has exhibited extraordinary leadership, vision and dedication. This year we are honoring the life of Winifred W. McKenzie, a visionary and founder of Safe Haven Family Shelter. Click here to read more about our Hero Award recipient.
