Hey everyone! My name is Kaitlyn, and I came all the way from Pennsylvania to intern with Safe Haven this summer! One of the big projects I’ll be working on over the next few months is helping to plan this year’s Hike for the Homeless, which I’m super excited about! While I am new to the Hike, I know many of you are active participants and look forward to coming out each fall! I still have lots to learn about the Hike, but the more I hear about the success of past Hikes, the more I am blown away by this community’s outpouring of love and support. It is so humbling to be a part of something that is ten years strong and has been the financial force behind our mission!
As a student approaching my senior year of college, I reflect back upon my past three years and the one thing my favorite memories have in common is the people I’ve shared them with. My friends and I love to rally for a good cause and show off our competitive side at events, and I know students in Nashville are no different! I envy the opportunity that all of the local college students have to get plugged into the Hike and enjoy a fun day with friends! One of my goals this summer is to help get local universities and high schools get involved and see how much money their teams can raise for Safe Haven! Each team is challenged to meet a fundraising goal of $1,000, and they have the freedom to get creative on campus and raise this money however they want (e.g. bake sales, car washes, tabling in student common areas)! It’s free to sign up and anyone who donates $25 or more will receive a Hike for the Homeless t-shirt.
So I challenge colleges, high schools, youth groups, service/greek orgs and more to form a team and Hike for the Homeless on November 8. I am here to help you get started. Let me know how I can help.
