Safe Haven recently launched its newest course—Parenting for Excellence. This 4-week class will empower parents to define their parenting goals, discover tools to help them reach for success and feel supported in the decisions they make to help guide their child(ren) to academic, social, and emotional wellness. Parenting for Excellence is designed for parents of children ages 0-5, with the following objectives in mind:
Parents will understand how upbringing influences parenting, and develop goals for their parenting agenda
Parents will develop a toolkit of strategies to allow their child to positively interact with each other and with the world around them
Parents will learn how to help get their child ready for school and everyday learning
Parents will identify safety concerns in everyday settings, build health and nutritional wellness understanding, and enhance play skills
The curriculum and workbook are designed with Search Institute’s 40 Developmental Assets in mind—which narrow down to a commitment to learning, positive values, social competencies, positive identity, support, empowerment, boundaries and expectations, and constructive use of time. Parents engage with each lesson through various activities, and then leave with notes they’ve taken in a workbook as well as resources to help reinforce topics we’ve discovered in class in their own homes.
