Preventing Family Homelessness

“There is a lot that happens around the world we cannot control. We cannot stop earthquakes, we cannot prevent droughts, and we cannot prevent all conflict, but when we know where the hungry, the homeless and the sick exist, then we can help.” – Jan Schakowsky

Safe Haven Family Shelter works to prevent family homelessness in Middle Tennessee. While sheltering a family provides safe haven, this is only a temporary solution. By addressing the issues that lead to homelessness, families can change their lives forever. Through research, we can determine what families need to rebound from economic, social, medical and mental health issues that contribute to homelessness. Through program evaluation, we identify strategies that can be translated into innovative practices, programs and trainings that work to prevent family homelessness. Through collaboration with other community agencies, we work to meet those needs that can prevent a family from becoming homeless.
