The Shelter Program is designed to give families the tools necessary to achieve lasting self-sufficiency, stable employment and secured housing.
Prior to admission into the Shelter Program, each family is screened for appropriate fit with our program criteria, including background checks and drug testing. Once a family completes the screening phase, we begin the intake process, determining the needs of each specific family and designing individual plans to help them reach their goals.
Through the diligence of our staff, volunteers and families, we make self-sufficiency into a reality. Education, counseling, job training and preparation, financial literacy, resource acquisition, life skills and social support are all crucial aspects of our support for the families in the Shelter Program.
The average length of stay in our Shelter Program for a family is between 60-90 days; one year in transitional housing.
We measure success at Safe Haven when our clients secure employment, develop a savings account, and gain housing through an apartment/house (or acquire a home through our Transitional Housing Program). Through education, training and case management, families are prepared to return to a home of their own with long-term economic and social success. We strive to meet an 86% success rate which is defined by families maintaining independent and stable living at least one year after they move out of one of our programs.
