IMG_1513On September 15, Alignment Nashville’s Re3 Coaching Initiative was honored as an American Graduate Champion by Nashville Public Television. Judy Lewis (Safe Haven Education Specialist) and Glen Biggs (Alignment Nashville Senior Associate Director) were honorees that night and were given a chance to talk about the initiative to community leaders. Other guests in attendance included: Jeff Yarbro (Tennessee State Senator), Laura Moore (Mayor’s Office Education Liaison) and Kevin Crane (NPT Vice President).

According to 2010 U.S. Census data, there are about 10,000 young adults in Nashville who are out of school and out of work. In the past these youth may have been referred to as “high school dropouts,” but we now refer to this population as opportunity youth. The Re3 project with Alignment Nashville was created to reengage, reenergize, and rediscover opportunity youth and train the staff at organizations already working with these young adults to coach them through getting a GED and landing a job in a career they are passionate about. Organizations already involved include: Safe Haven, Salvation Army, Martha O’Bryan, Centerstone, Conexión Américas, Juvenile Court, Park Center, and many more.
