GRATITUDE FOR VOLUNTEERS, DONORS, BOARD, STAFF AND COMMUNITY

SHFS Staff at CNM SaluteI am so grateful to work for Safe Haven Family Shelter and that the Nashville community has given us recognition, generous support, and unique ways to innovate and collaborate. In 2015, we have been given several unprecedented opportunities to tell our story and grow our capacity. By the end of this year, we will have served at least 75 families experiencing homelessness and along with our partner, Catholic Charities of Tennessee, and our Family Empowerment Program, those numbers will likely double. PARTNERSHIPS WITH PROPERTY OWNERS CAN CHANGE THE WORLD

DSC_0724We are grateful and excited to say that we will have housed 40 families by the end of November. Partnerships with property owners allow Safe Haven to house and serve more families. Lester, a local property owner, began working with Safe Haven last October and has housed 11 of our families. Additionally, he will provide housing for two more families in the month of November. CHILDREN’S PROGRAM THRIVES THROUGH COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS AND VOLUNTEERS

20151005_113048The Children’s Program at Safe Haven is more comprehensive than ever, and we are excited to share what we’ve been up to in recent months! To better meet the needs of the children we serve, we have aligned new programs and services with our children’s program. Our most recent partnership is with the Vanderbilt Child Language and Literacy Lab. Through this collaborative effort, our families will have access to a trained speech pathologist who will provide free evaluations to our children in the areas of speech, language, literacy, math and/or thinking skills. VOLUNTEERS CREATE A SPACE FOR JOY AT SAFE HAVEN

lillieOne person truly can make a difference, and I see this through the many Safe Haven Family Shelter volunteers. On Friday nights, I spend my time upstairs with the children. Saying goodbye (or rather, “see you next week!”) at night is always difficult to do, but it is that tough goodbye that shows me how much the children love quality time with mentors. I am thankful for the time I have with these children and for each volunteer that has given their time to impact the lives of our children and families. Though there are many organizations I could have chosen to dedicate my time to this final semester at Belmont, I am grateful I chose Safe Haven Family Shelter. Thank you to every volunteer I have encountered so far! Know that you are making a difference with the time you give.  (Read more…)
