Family Mentoring Volunteer Opp

Journey Together is a new initiative at Safe Haven that matches an individual, family or group with a Safe Haven family as they make the transition from homelessness to lasting self-sufficiency.  Mentors share their experience, strength, and hope with a homeless family as they journey to a better life.

The primary responsibilities of a mentor are:

- Meeting on a weekly basis with the mentee family (an average of an hour per week)
- Developing a committed, respectful relationship
- Discovering and supporting the development of life skills such as budgeting, parenting and goal setting
- Assisting in finding community resources in cooperation with program staff

You don’t need to be an expert in order to be an effective mentor.  The most important things you do in your role as a mentor are to listen and care.  We hope that this journey together will give you new insights about the needs of families in poverty.

To ensure a good match between our mentors and families, each prospective mentor will go through an interview and training process to help them understand their role and find the best fit for a mentoring relationship.
