More about A Taqueria Holiday…

Taqueria del Sol, a from-scratch fast casual eatery with two locations in Nashville, teams again with platinum-selling singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley to host “A Taqueria Holiday” fundraiser for the fifth year to support Safe Haven Family Shelter, Monday, December 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Taqueria del Sol’s 12th South location, 2317 12th Avenue South.

For every $1 spent on food and beverage, Safe Haven Family Shelter will receive $9. Guests order from the menu and bar as usual, and the restaurant donates 100% of the evening’s food and beverage proceeds to Safe Haven. In addition, matching gifts will generate a nine-fold total donation. Dierks and Cassidy Bentley, Ross and Katlin Copperman, Brian and Sarah Layton, Mark and Sherry Deutschmann, Zac and Caroline Thomas, Vic and Liz Thomas, Taqueria Nashville, and Taqueria Atlanta each will contribute a matching gift.

Over the past four years, the annual event has donated $168,390 to Safe Haven Family Shelter, Middle Tennessee’s premier shelter-to-housing program that accepts the entire family experiencing homelessness.

Restaurant team members, led by Javier Salado at Taqueria in 12 South and Will Spiva at Taqueria on Charlotte Ave., are also deeply committed to the event, coming in on the restaurant’s typical day off to volunteer their time to prepare the food and staff the event.

Taqueria Nashville Managing Partner Tony Halligan, a veteran restauranteur, first learned about Safe Haven from his friends and regular customers Dierks and Cassidy Bentley. The Taqueria Nashville team members visited Safe Haven and were deeply moved by the compassionate services to help families with children transition from homelessness to stable housing. They came up with the unique plan to raise money by hosting an event that draws support from the restaurant’s devoted clientele and Safe Haven supporters. The Bentleys added their support, becoming a host of the event and donating a matching gift. Additional matching donors came forward every year to increase the total contribution to Safe Haven.

“For the past four years, A Taqueria Holiday has been a high point of our holiday season as a day that we can all help families who do not have a place to call home” said Halligan. “Dierks and his family, along with several other sponsors and their families, join us in working that night to raise money for Safe Haven and awareness of family homelessness. We are honored to support Safe Haven in providing a pathway to housing and stability while keeping the family together.”

“A Taqueria Holiday is a fun, casual night out for families and friends to enjoy great food and support the families we serve at Safe Haven Family Shelter,” said Joyce Lavery, Safe Haven CEO. “We are deeply thankful to the entire Taqueria del Sol Nashville team for creating and hosting this one-of-a-kind event for Safe Haven. And we are truly humbled by the incredible generosity of Taqueria del Sol, Dierks and Cassidy and the other matching donors.”
