Piece of Mind Events- Making Birthdays Special

Shardé Curry, Founder and CEO of Piece of Mind Events is a founding partner of  Safe Haven’s Birthday Club. In fact, three years ago, Shardé, with Piece of Mind Events, was the first company to step up to sponsor birthdays on a regular basis!

“I didn’t have a single event booked for my new company, started in 2018, when I approached Safe Haven with this idea to sponsor birthdays, but I had a strong desire to give,” said Shardé.

Now, three years later, Shardé and Piece of Mind Events has sponsored numerous birthdays for children in shelter or hotels. She provides all tableware in the color and theme of the child’s choice, decorations, a custom cake or cupcake in their favorite flavor, and a small gift. Before the pandemic, if a family wanted to have a birthday party at the shelter, Shardé would come and set everything up. For families who prefer a more private celebration (and since the pandemic), she delivers the items for families to celebrate in their own special way.

In year one, Shardé made all the cakes and cupcakes herself! She has made Legos, Batman, and even a dinosaur cake before! “I love to bake, but as the parties increased, I reached out to local bakeries to ask for help,” said Shardé. “Nashville Sweets donates the cakes now and is my birthday celebration partner.” Others also donate as well to join in on the birthday sponsorships.

When asked why sponsoring birthdays are important, Shardé said, “As a child, my birthday was such a big deal to me. I used to plan my parties months in advance and still do as an adult. I believe that every child should be celebrated on their birthday regardless of circumstance, especially ones they have no control over.”

We are so grateful to Shardé and Piece of Mind Events for starting and continuing this effort to make birthdays special for children experiencing homelessness at Safe Haven!
